Million $ Question

A contestant on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" had reached the final plateau. If she answered the next question correctly, she would win $1,000,000. If she answered incorrectly, she would pocket only the $32,000 milestone money.

As she suspected, the million-dollar question was no pushover. It was, "Which of the following species of birds does not build its own nest, but instead lays its eggs in the nests of other birds?
Is it: A) the Condor; B) the Buzzard; C) the Cuckoo; or D) the Vulture?"

The woman was on the spot. She did not know the answer. And she was doubly on the spot because she had used up her 50/50 Lifeline and her Audience Poll Lifeline. All that remained was h er Phone-a- Friend Lifeline, and the woman had hoped against hope that she would not have to use it, mainly because the only friend that she knew would be home happened to be a blonde.

But the contestant had no alternative. She called her friend and gave her the question and the four choices.

The blonde responded unhesitatingly: "That's easy. The answer is C: The Cuckoo."

The contestant had to make a decision and make it fast. She considered employing a reverse strategy and giving any answer except the one that her friend had given her and considering that her friend was a blonde, that would seem to be the logical thing to do. On the other hand, the blonde had responded with such confidence, such certitude, that the contestant could not help but be persuaded.

"I need an answer," said the host.

Crossing her fingers, the contestant said, "C: The Cuckoo."

"Is that your final answer?" asked the host.

"Yes, that is my final answer." replied the contestant.

Moments later the host said, "That answer is..........absolutely correct. You are now a millionaire!"

Three days later, the contestant hosted a party for her family and friends--including the blonde who had helped her win the million dollars.

"Blondie, I just do not know how to thank you," said the contestant.
"Because of your knowing the answer to that final question, I am now a millionaire. And do you want to know something? It was the assuredness with which you answered the question that convinced me to go with your choice. By the way, how did you happen to know the right answer?"

"Oh, come on," said the blonde. "Everybody knows that Cuckoos don't build nests. They live in clocks."

27th August 2008

it is the 3rd day of the week and i have went to meet some recruiters. So far, Kerry Consulting and Charters got back to me. Went for an interview at BNP Paribas today. The interview went on great today and i find it too fast as the end of the session, the hiring manager asked me on my expected pay and he say he was only willing to match my current pay over 13 mths which i finds i am at a losing end. MY current package is over 12 mths.

Sigh,

JP Morgan is interviewing me on Monday for the role of Middle Office in Interest Rate.

Hope i will excel and get the job.

25th August 2008

Today, I went down to Clarke Quay. And the best part was that there is no queue for the 10k NIKE RUN.

As compared to yesterday, today was a good day for collection for the pack.

Due to the heavy rain yesterday, thousands of people were in the queue since 10 am and they queue till 4 plus in the afternoon to get the race pack. Among the throng of people in the queue, many came from AHM 08. Pity those who ran 21 km to collect. They were tired not from running the AHM but rather worn out from the waiting.

A running top with my bib number printed printed on it.

Will be running in it on 31.08.08

Where will you be on that day?

10k Human Race ....

It ain't a special day for anyone but to me, this is the day that i bade farewell to all my dear colleagues and friends.

Ironically, being the most senior in the team, i decided to leave quietly not informing many of the exact date of my last date.

In the morning, i was busy dispatching out my goodbye notes and gift to the various kind souls who have made my stay enjoyable and work hand in hand with me during my course of stay...

I bought a box of chocolates for everyone individually. Though expensive, i felt they deserve more but due to limited finance available, i cant afford to buy all top grades chocolates.

It was good bading farewell to the people that i enjoy working with.

The saddest thing was that i did not farewell to the pp who was in my team and now rejoined my ex team. I was treated rudely and treated like a piece of shit in my last 4 weeks in the team.

After the recent merger, as i have tendered, my authority in the team is gone. The colleagues whom i used to work with when i first joined CS treated me like i was invisible. It saddens me and it broke my heart. Thus the reason, why i left quietly.

With my farewell email sent at 5 pm, many tried to reach me via email or call but failed to get thru. I left office quietly and sadly at the stroke of 6.10pm

No one whom i noe in my initial days at Hansa Point bade me farewell. Those that did were my juniors in my team and my colleagues and friends at One raffles link and one raffles quay.

Imagine that.

below is my farewell email to my colleagues :

Sat, 3 Aug 2008

Phew, finally it is Sat. Had been hectic for the past few days for me.... Especially since Wed.
This is wat happens to me since Wed.

On Wed, with the end of my papers, i decided to pamper myself.
Went for a massage in the Wed @ for a massage in town. Frankly speaking, was rather disappointed with the service. One, the package for a 90 min sea scrub, massage and facial cost a bomb. secondly, the therapist was not putting enough forces on the massage, it was a rather weak man.

Thank god, my hair treatment was good. my stylist is still the best. ie Jay. He is very nice and friendly. He made my day man. Was at the salon for like 3 hours. my head was massaged, did hair treatment for my oily scalp and color my hair. Now, the colour of my hair is coffee brown.

After the treatment, i headed down to Suntec to attend the Garden Fest. it was worth the money and it was an eye opener and an enriching experience for me.

10 Training Fundamentals

All-time best advice for riding faster, stronger and longer than ever before
By Selene Yeager

1. Have a plan.

You may be able to get pretty fit by winging it, but truly remarkable accomplishments, whether upgrading to Cat 3 or scoring a belt buckle in the Leadville 100, require careful execution of a training program.

2. Be prepared to scrap the plan.

You're scheduled for 20 minutes of pyramid intervals, but your legs feel like you spent the last few days constructing a real pyramid. Spin today. Hit it hard tomorrow instead. Your plan should be etched in clay for molding to your needs, not in stone for beating yourself up.

3. Ride at the edges.

Once a week, go so hard your eyes hurt. Follow it with a ride so slow the snail’s yawn. The combination makes legs strong.

4. Be true to yourself.

Cyclists are pack animals. Enjoy the camaraderie, but don't let your training goals get trashed by constant king-of-the-mountain contests, town-sign sprints or the all-hard, all-the-time mentality of the group. If you can't trust yourself to go easy when you need to, ride alone.

5. Do what sucks.

You hate climbing because it's hard for you. You should climb--because it's hard for you.

6. Think improvement.

Do more than log miles. Intervals, cadence rides and other specific workouts are designed to progressively challenge your body in different ways from week to week. Give every ride a goal.

7. Maintain the human machine.

The gym is your body shop. Visit twice a week to strengthen your core and other stabilizing muscle groups. And don't forget to stretch. By keeping your supporting muscles strong and joints flexible you can avoid an achy back, tight hip flexors and other overuse pains that can weaken even the strongest cyclist.

8. Train your brain.

Your body can do more than you think. Convince your brain through positive thinking and visualization. You'll be surprised at what you accomplish when you say you can.

9. Eat.

Fuel your workouts with the food you eat on race day. You'll ride faster in practice and digest better when it counts. Experiment: There are dozens of energy concoctions for a reason. No one thing works for everyone.

10. Enjoy the ride.

You already have a job. Work hard at cycling, but never make it work.
