FIRE AT SAKAE SUSHI NORTH POINT ON 28 FEB 2010

It was the last day of Chinese New Year.

I was having dinner with my friend at SAKAE SUSHI NORTH POINT. We wanted to order the Yu SHENG but since we did not pre order, we were told to wait till after 6pm if we wanted any and be put on the waiting list. We decided not to wait since it be long, thus deciding to have sushi and soup.

When we came ard 5plus, the restaurant was not packed but service was slow. Guess the service staff was pretty shorthanded. Slow service is understandable as the restaurant was shorthanded but i would expect the service staff to be vigilant especially when diners are ordering hot pots. Let me share with you the reason why which my friend and i encounter yesterday. Thank god, we were alert less we would have suffer some minor burns due to the lack of diligence of the staff.

We order sushi and some soup.

oops the sushi are gone before pics were snapped... My apologies

The culprit that made us unhappy at SAKE SUSHI NORTH POINT

I must highlight that when the soup was served, the pot was not lighted up. We had to wait for 10 mins later after getting the attentions of the servers for our bowls for the soup and for the pot to be lighted up. The flame for the soup was pretty big, i would say for that day. Soup was boiling within minutes and we had our servings our soup. We called for the attention of the servers to five us more soup for the pot as the heat was drying up the soup too fast and the vegetables getting overcooked. after getting the attention of one server for more soup, the wait was a longer one. We called for assistance via the online system for the ordering and assistance not once, not twice not thrice but countless time but no one came over to attend us. soup was drying up with minimum water base. Vegetables and salmon getting burnt. Smoke was seen from the hotpot and i was desperately trying to get the attention via calling for assistance n via the computer.

Decided to put the pot at the end of the table as it was smoky and my friend was coughing. i stood up and decided to demand for attention by speaking in a loud harsh tone for help when the fire break out. The pot was burning and the servers that we requested for help earlier on was stunned and did not move an inch. I managed to get hold of the attention of one of th staff, whom i believed was the manager, a female. She was quick to react though she was at the opposite end of me.The stunned server upon seeing the manager rushing over then decided to take action by rushing to our table with a piece of damp cloth hoping to put out the fire. Mind you, the fire though small was abt the height of my waist down. How can one put out a fire with damp cloth?
By miracle? Thank god for the quick action of the female staff, she pour cold water over it and the fire was out within 5 minutes.

THE FEMALE STAFF(WHOM I BELIEVE IS THE MANAGER) WHO PUT OUT THE FIRE

OUR TABLE AFTER THE FIRE.

IT WAS SADDENDED TO KNOW THAT A DINING EXPERIENCE AT SAKAE SUSHI NORTHPOINT WAS A TRAUMA. STAFF WERE UNAWARE OF WHAT TO BE DONE AND DINERS AFFTECTED IE US WERE LEFT UNATTENDED LEAVING US BEING STARE BU OTHER DINERS WHO WERE SHOCKED BY THE FIRE. ALL THE WHILE AFTER THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT, WE WERE NOT OFFERED A NEW TABLE, NOR WATER TO CALM OURSELF BUT MADE STANDING FEELING ANGRY AND DISAPPOINTED. THOUGH THE FEMALE SERVERS OFFERED US A NEW HOT POT FOR THE ACCIDENT, I DECLINED. WHO WOULD WANT TO EAT HOTPOT AGAIN AFTER THE FIRE IMMEDIATELY.ITS FRUSTARING TO KNOW THAT DINERS ALERTED THE SERVICE STAFF AND REQUESTED FOR ATTENTION AND ASSISTANCE AND NO ONCE CAME TO ASSIST.SAD TO SAY, THIS IS MY LAST TIME DINING AT SAKAE SUSHI AND PERHAPS NORTHPOINT. THIS IS A SMALL FIRE BUT WHAT IF IT WAS BIG AND THE POT EXPLODED AND CAUSE INJURY TO ME NOR MY FRIEND.ALL THIS COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED BUT IT WASNT. WHY? LACK OF DILLIGENCE AND POOR SERVICE.

ARE SERVICE STAFF TRAINED TO HANDLE HOT POT AND HOW TO REACT IF FIRE BREAKS OUT DUE TO HOT POT OR EVEN MINI EXPLOSION?

I DO NOT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN TO ME, TO MY LOVED ONES NOT STRANGERS.
THE LEAST I FELT THAT THE RESTAURANT COULD HAVE DONE WAS TO SERVE US DRINK TO CALM DOWN AND SEAT US AT A CLEAN TABLE INSTEAD OF MAKING US STAND THERE LIKE IDIOTS BEING THE STARS OF THE MISHAPS BEING LOOKED BY OTHER DINERS AND PASSERBY. - LACK OF INSENSITIVITY AND COMPASSION.

WOULD YOU WANT TO READ A NEWSPAPER HEADLINE: EXPLOSION IN XXX RESTAURANT.... 2 INJURED... ETC....

WOULD YOU WANT TO BE IN THIS SITUATION N GO THROUGH THE UNHAPPINEESS?
